... Nope, I've been getting plenty of exercise clearing paths in the snow. We were blessed with a blizzard on Christmas Day that brought in quite a bit of snow. Some of the drifts in our yard are up to 4ft. deep. Yesterday morning we found our bucks buried inside their shed under nearly a 10ft. drift. Their snow buried shed became an igloo for them and it was toasty warm inside!
Mr. B removed snow from our parking area as we had drifts nearly 3ft. high behind all our vehicles ... the snow piles are higher than the beds of the pick-ups.
The snow plow made it down our county road late this morning removing three huge snow drifts between our driveway and the highway. Two of the drifts were over 6ft. deep and one was more than 13ft. deep! I know it will be hard for my southern family and friends to believe it but, this storm wasn't even considered a "bad" one. I always make sure our winter stocks are supplied well before late autumn sets in. The last time a "bad one" hit - the power was out and it was more than 2 weeks before the plows arrived bringing access for power line repairs and an exit route to the highway.
What lovely pictures! We had our first experience with snow on Christmas Eve. We were pretty excited especially our young lady daughters. It was an official White Christmas. Of course I'm expecting this "honeymoon" with the snow will end after experiencing many more.
ReplyDeleteHi Regina,
DeleteSo glad to hear you too were blessed with a white Christmas this year.
Blessings,
Mrs.B
Hello Mrs B.,
ReplyDeleteYou did get a lot of snow! I read one of your comments on Laura's blog about hurting your back and the big snowstorm hitting while you were snug in your home. I'm glad your back is better now.
We got quite a bit here with drifting snow. Many roads around us were closed and flights cancelled at the local airport about 30 miles away from us. One of my friends actually hiked a mile up her snowed in driveway in order to have a friend pick her up and get her to the airport. Her flight was the only one that made it out that day. I took her friend who picked her up 4 1/2 hours to make it home from the airport when it usually takes 20 minutes! My friend and her family are returning home tomorrow and she fears they will be hiking in to their house from the highway. Her husband is going to have to get their tractor out to clear their road!
Happy New Year, Debbie ...
DeleteYes, Mr.B also had to use our tractor for snow removal up to our county road, about a 1/4 mile. But here's a funny I didn't mention in my post:
Mr.B jumped in his tractor and set to work clearing snow from our parking area, a 1/3 mi. "roadway" down to our barns, our hay bales and horse pasture BEFORE plowing the 1/4 mi. driveway. By the time he returned to work on the driveway, he realized the tractor was almost out of fuel AND he didn't have any extra on hand! So, we had a cleared parking area, cleared access to our barns, hay and horse pasture but no fuel that would allow us access to the county road which is our only avenue to get more fuel --- HA!HA!HA! Fortunately all worked out - he and Farmer Boy loaded up the shovels and dug the truck out whenever needed as they worked their way to the county road - this took about 2 hours. After returning home with 3 jugs of fuel and plowing the drive, Mr.B comes in and comments, "Well, I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen again". I replied with, "Did you get extra fuel for the power generator?" He put his coat back on, got the generator fuel jugs out of the garage and headed back to town ... LOL! LOL!
I can only laugh, because less than 5 weeks ago I mentioned that we needed to re-stock our emergency fuel as the snows would surely start arriving any day. He assured me he would take care of it. It appears he forgot. But, lesson learned - I doubt he will ever forget to re-stock the fuel again.
Praying you all enjoy a Christ centered New Year celebration,
Mrs.B
Oh my goodness! That is funny and I am glad it all worked out. I keep telling my hubby that we need to buy more wood pellets since that is what we heat our home with. He finally listened to me when he saw how quickly we were going through them and that plan is to borrow our son Chris' pickup truck sometime this next week between storms and haul another ton home.

ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of snow! You are wise to prepare ahead.
ReplyDeleteIt is rare for Oklahoma to get a big snowfall and that is AOK with me.
Happy new year to you and your family

Happy New Year to you, Mrs. Rhonda,
DeleteThis is our 5th winter in Montana and, so far, we are handling the snow better than I expected.
I'm glad to hear that Oklahoma hasn't received too much snow this year.
Blessings,
Mrs.B
Oh my, look at all that snow! I can see why you don't need the treadmill!
ReplyDeleteMy initial impression of the snow in the first photo was that it looks like marshmellow. You can tell I haven't seen snow before, right?
Wishing you a great year Mrs B!
xTania
Happy New Year to you, Tania -
DeleteYes, the fresh snow does look like marshmallow cream. Today the high temp was negative 8 degrees F. When it is that cold the humidity freezes and when in the sunshine, it looks like the air is filled with glitter - utterly beautiful.
I hope you someday see snow in person.
Blessings,
Mrs.B
What happens in regards to school and work in the situations when the plow doesn't come for days or weeks? Does everyone just stay home?
ReplyDeleteHello My Dear Cousin,
DeleteYup, if we were in public or private school we'd phone in to notify them that the roads have not been plowed and we can't get out. They would then assign school work via telephone or internet OR allow "make-up" work days. Regarding one's job or work schedule, Mr.B has had to phone the shop and tell them he wouldn't be in because the plows had not arrived and he was snowed in. Many employers will require you use a sick day or vacation day for this.
We hope you all are enjoying your winter!
Blessings,
Mrs.B
P.S. Only 1 time in the past 7 years have the plows not been able to get to our area within two days of a heavy snowfall. That was after the 2011 spring blizzard (April 2011).
