The Store Room

While OG and her two friends are laughing, giggling and crafting down in the basement den, I thought I'd take a few moments to share a couple photos of my store room re-organization project.  I must confess that I LOVE having a basement.  For a girl who grew up on the Gulf Coast, moving into a home that has a basement is like winning the floor space lottery.  I no longer have to stash my garden bounties or food stores under the beds, behind the sofas or in any other nook or cranny I may happen upon.  Nor do I have to worry about my storage areas getting too warm during the summer months.  I now have this dark, cool (annual average temp. 58 degrees Fahrenheit) little room down a few stairs under my kitchen to store the bountiful harvest the Lord has blessed us with.

I still have over 200 pounds of beets and carrots to can and add to this store room.  My shelves are full so I suppose they will have to be stacked on the floor until I can get some more installed.  Expanding one's storage space for an abundant harvest - "a very good thing".

DRUM ROLL PLEASE ...

... 2013's Harvest Total is, hang on to your hat ...

1,087 POUNDS !

Our investment total was $152.00, bringing our final cost per pound to $0.14 per pound.

Now I am on to re-organizing our storage room so all our food preserves will be neatly organized.  I'll post photos of the finished task.
